NB Fire Department sells out Beef on a Bun fundraiser

More than just a hearty lunch; it’s making a real difference.

The North Battleford Fire Department hosted their annual Beef on a Bun fundraiser Wednesday at the fire hall.

The event, which is organized by the Fire Fighters Union and hosted by the local detachment, provided residents an opportunity to pick up a beef on a bun lunch, complete with coleslaw, cake and a juice box for $5.

All proceeds from the day’s event will then be donated to the North Battleford Burn Fund.

The event sold out again this year, despite a bit of a twist on the regular feel of the day’s festivities.

Generally the beef on a bun is served with a designated seating area for residents at the fire hall. However due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s event was set up as a takeout and delivery only event.

Coltin Sonder has been a firefighter in the community for five years. He said they couldn’t have asked for a better day weather-wise to host the event, with blue skies overhead.

“It’s perfect, we were hoping we would be able to keep the bay door open during the event and it really worked out,” he laughed. “It’s been a beautiful day and we’re all happy to be here.”

Sonder added it was great to see the continued outflow of community support as well, once again this year.

“It feels awesome,” he said. “A lot of work went into putting this event on and it really was a hit. I think people are excited to see an event on, and we actually sold out yesterday before the event even started. We are very grateful for the support and really appreciate the community’s interest.”
