New Appointment

Town announces new CAO starting next week

Oct 6, 2020 | 10:12 AM

The Town of Battleford has a new chief administrative officer (CAO) at the helm.

Mayor Ames Leslie made the announcement at council’s meeting Monday night.

Ash Alam was selected for the position. Alam joins the town after previously serving as CAO in Buffalo Narrows.

“We do welcome Ash as part of our family, and into our community,” Leslie said.

Leslie thanked the town’s outgoing finance director, David Gillan, for acting as the interim CAO since the position was left vacant when John Enns-Wind departed this summer.

Gillan previously resigned from his position as the town’s finance director and is running as a mayoral candidate for the upcoming City of North Battleford municipal election.

Battleford council formally approved the recommendation to appoint Alam to the town CAO position. Alam will officially start next week.

“We will get him out and about in our community in a short little while, and introduce everybody,” Leslie said.

Based on a biography available online from the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association website, Alam grew up in New York City, and achieved his BBA from Arizona State University and MBA from the University of Nevada. He moved to Buffalo Narrows two years ago when he accepted the position of chief administrative officer there. Alam completed his NACLAA level II from the University of Alberta, as well as his Executive Certification in Local Government from Dalhousie University.
