Chickadee Songwriters Circle to highlight artists in community

Sep 30, 2020 | 4:49 PM

Local music fans in the community craving a night on the town, can look no further than this weekend.

She-NANIGANS performance venue will host their inaugural Chickadee Songwriters Circle this Friday at 7 p.m.

Featuring local area musicians from the region, the event will become a regular occurrence, taking place the first Friday of each month moving forward.

Musical entertainment this week will include, former Northern Pikes original member, Jay Semko; up-and-coming pop/country artist, Jordyn Pollard; and fellow singer/songwriter, Doug Sylvester.

Glennda Ilett, with She-NANIGANS, said what makes the event unique is its look behind the curtain. Not only will those in attendance get to hear original songs written and performed by the musicians, but they will also get to hear the stories behind the songs as well.

“[The featured musicians] are going to perform the original songs that they’ve written, but also talk about how their inspiration came about,” she said. “What they were doing [when inspiration struck], and other little stories that go along with each song, just to explain the song and where it came from.”

Ilett said she is looking forward to having the event at She-NANIGANS, as a way to help showcase and support some of the many talented artists within the region.

“We have all kinds of talent in the Battlefords and I think it’s a perfect platform, especially for young, emerging artists,” she said. “I think it’s going to be really eye-opening for a lot of local people.”

The doors will open at 6 p.m., with music to begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission for the night’s event is by donation. Those interested in attending are asked to contact She-NANIGANS ahead of time to reserve a spot, as seating is limited.
