City officially reopens 100 Street to traffic with ribbon-cutting ceremony

Sep 29, 2020 | 11:39 AM

After a busy summer, crews have now completed all the upgrades to the final section of 100 Street in North Battleford.

The City of North Battleford’s council members came together at 13th Avenue to officially reopen the road to traffic this morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Mayor Ryan Bater said it’s good to see the work finally finished.

“This was a project that has been in the planning for several years,” he said. “We’ve always identified that we wanted to replace the underground infrastructure on this street. Several years ago we started with six blocks, just to the north of this area, and we’re finishing here today. So as of now, the underground infrastructure has all been replaced, and of course the asphalt has been replaced on 100 Street.”

The city rehabilitated the road from 12th to 14th Avenue, and replaced aged piping as part of its Underground Pipeline and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) project.

The mayor said this summer’s project was completed on schedule which is important because the work impacted businesses. He thanked area businesses for their patience and support while the work was underway.

“Now that it is done, we also have the added benefit of the beautification of the streetscapes consistent with the downtown master plan,” he said. “So all in all this is a very big success for 2020.”

Bater added, similar to the city’s other underground and roadwork projects this summer, the 100 Street work was completed by local companies.

“That’s really important,” he said. “It was under the budgeted amount which is also important, and a nice benefit.”

Especially this year during the pandemic, Bater said, it was critical to get local families working on integral public works initiatives like this. So the effort was a “win all around.”
