City approves Access Communications’ proposal for naming rights to North Battleford Civic Centre

The North Battleford Civic Centre now has a new name.

City council unanimously approved a resolution for a sponsorship proposal from Access Communications to purchase the naming rights to the facility for a five-year period.

The organization is providing a payment of $150,000 for the naming rights.

As part of the agreement, the funds from Access Communications will be placed in a dedicated reserve for Civic Centre renovations.

“We really appreciate the investment from Access Communications, and we’ll be dedicating those funds back into the facility,” Mayor Ryan Bater said. “So essentially Access Communications is investing in the Civic Centre itself. We’re very grateful for that investment.”

Bater said the proposal is consistent with the city’s naming rights policy, adopted last year.

“That kind of opened the door for this kind of opportunity,” he said.

The arena will be called the Access Communications Centre once the agreement is finalized.

Access Communications is thrilled to participate in the venture.

“It’s an exciting day for both North Battleford and Access Communications,” Access Communications Regional Manager Martin Smith said. “As a not-for-profit, community-owned co-operative, everything we do is aimed at supporting our communities. That was the driving-force behind this agreement, to support the rink.”

Smith said the Civic Centre has been “like a second home” for him on a personal level for many years, as he has both played in and coached various teams in the facility.

“So I guess in saying that, it’s come full circle for me,” he said. “I personally can’t wait to welcome everyone to the Access Communications Centre.”
