Battlefords RCMP charge 17-year-old for convenience store robbery

Police have arrested and charged a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery at the 7-Eleven on the 1700 block of North Battleford last month.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 12 a lone male entered the 7-Eleven, threatened staff members and left with a small amount of money. After more than a month of investigation, police charged a 17-year-old.

“If we have a number of leads to follow up on, then we can take it that length or longer,” Sgt. Jason Teniuk said. “If we start to lack some information, then investigations may start to dry up.”

Because of his age, RCMP are not releasing the young male offender’s name. Teniuk said officers identified him as a suspect early on in the investigation, but had to let the evidence lead them there.

“It’s not just a person being identified or a particular piece of evidence being identified,” he said. “It’s a matter of trying to put all those pieces together, like you would a puzzle, and have it make sense.”

The youth’s first court appearance will be November 12 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
