After Métis Nation-Saskatchewan President Glen McCallum tested positive for COVID-19, the Hawood Inn in Waskesiu Lake closed on Saturday for four days of deep cleaning.

According to Nancy Wood, the owner and operator of the Hawood Inn, McCallum and his council stayed at the hotel on Thursday. In an email to paNOW, Wood said all inn staff have been in contact with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and are considered at low-contact risk since they were following protocols. The inn has hired a professional cleaning team to deep clean all rooms.

Without mentioning McCallum by name in a Sunday morning statement, the SHA identified the Hawood Inn as one of six businesses that were recently visited by “an individual who tested COVID-19 positive,” from 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Due to patient confidentiality, the SHA cannot name who visited these locations.

Here is the full potential exposure list the SHA provided on Sunday morning. It includes the South Hill Mall Tim Hortons in Prince Albert on Sept. 17, as well as four Saskatoon-based businesses.

  • Carver’s Steak House – Saskatoon – Sept. 10: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Grainfields on 8th Street – Saskatoon – Sept. 11: 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Garden Cafe, Saskatoon Inn – Saskatoon – Sept. 12: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
  • Tim Horton’s, 3223 – 2nd Ave W – Prince Albert – Sept. 17: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
  • Hawood Inn (Hotel and/or dining area), 851 Lakeview Dr – Waskesiu Lake – Sept. 17: 5:30 p.m. – Sept. 18: 5:00 p.m.
  • Willows Golf and Country Club – Sept 16: 1:30 -6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan announced on Facebook that McCallum had tested positive for COVID-19.

McCallum was asymptomatic, but was tested as a preventative measure because of his role in the community, the MN-S said in an attached press release.

“I’m fortunate to be healthy and not have any symptoms but this demonstrates how easily, and unknowingly, this virus is spread,” McCallum said in the release. “I will remain in isolation until I receive the all clear from public health officials. I’m relieve and grateful that I was tested when I was and that my family is safe and healthy.”
