Access Communications makes proposal for Civic Centre Arena naming rights

Sep 17, 2020 | 3:52 PM

Access Communications Co-operative Ltd. is making a proposal to the City of North Battleford for the naming rights to the current Civic Centre Arena.

Council will review the Saskatchewan-owned non-profit organization’s offer at its next meeting on Sept. 28.

Mayor Ryan Bater said the proposal means the city could potentially have a corporate citizen that would contribute financially for the naming rights to the venue.

“There is an opportunity for us to use that financial contribution to invest right back into the facility itself,” he said.

Council previously adopted a new policy that indicated the city was open to granting naming rights for city facilities.

Bater said the city granted naming rights for some facilities in the past but not for the arena.

“We have that at the Credit Union CUplex, in those four facilities,” he said. “One facility where we have never had [naming rights] is the Civic Centre. So it’s an interesting proposal.”

City manager Randy Patrick said in a release administration will bring the “compelling proposal” forward for a presentation at council’s upcoming meeting.

Council will need to discuss the details of Access Communications’ offer before making any decisions.
