New Administrative Appointments at John Paul II Collegiate High School

Light of Christ Catholic Schools believes that a team is most effective when they focus on how individuals strengths can work with others to create greatness.

Because of an unexpected departure, Vice Principals Tracie Harty and Bruce Yockey have been appointed as Co-Principals at John Paul II Collegiate for the upcoming 2020-21 school year. Both Harty and Yockey are Relators based on the Gallup Clifton Strengths Assessment. Relators find deep satisfaction in working hard with colleagues to achieve a goal.

“With their combined energy along with Harty’s Communication, Includer, Woo, and Strategic strengths meeting with Yockey’s Harmony, Adaptability, Ideation, and Maximizer we are sure to see amazing things happen at our ever growing high school”, says Mr. Cory Rideout, Director of Education. “As a team, they have just what it takes to steer the JPII students and staff through the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming school year. We are very thankful that they were able to take on these new roles in these unexpected circumstances.”

Both Harty and Yockey bring tremendous skill sets to JPII. In addition to both having Master’s degrees, Harty has a human resources certificate and has worked as a curriculum coach in LOCCS. Yockey is well known for his involvement in local athletics and was instrumental to bring a successful Crusaders football program to JPII.

Rounding out the administrative team for the 2020-21 school year will be Mr. Frazer Donahue as half-time Vice-Principal. Donahue is currently a Master’s Degree candidate and has been providing leadership as the Following Their Voices Facilitator for the past several years.

In addition to the new administrative team, a new timetable is being implemented. The new 1 and 4 timetable means that Monday will be allocated for remote learning for students. This will provide an opportunity for greater blended learning and development of the necessary skills for students in the event of needing to move to a Level III response.

Tuesday to Friday students will attend classes as normal resulting in reduced class sizes while still providing opportunities for students to continue to take electives that in some other high schools has been significantly reduced.

There will be more cohort grouping while reducing the movement of students in high traffic areas such as hallways. And finally, if we have to move to a Level III response, this schedule will allow us to do so seamlessly.

It aligns well with our beliefs surrounding Pace, Place and Time for learning and the importance of relationships for improved learning.

Harty says, “I am very excited that we are providing students the opportunity to grow their skills in a blended learning environment, while continuing to foster relationships. I look forward to continuing our growth as a leadership team, I am excited to see how our individual strengths contribute to our team approach, and I welcome Frazer to the administrative team”.

“Strong relationships with staff and students and teamwork have been staples at JPII. I look forward to working collaboratively with our administrative team and staff to create student success in a unique school setting”, Yockey added.

Mr. Donahue believes that Following Their Voices will continue to grow and expand with a focus on individual and group strengths. “I am looking forward to being a part of the JPII administrative team and the new opportunities that being a Vice-Principal will present”.

JPII believes in higher goals and further horizons and the horizon is looking very bright this year!
