Jazz trio headed to She-NANIGANS performance venue

Jazz aficionados will be in their element when this Saskatchewan trio comes to She-NANIGANS Thursday.

The Remainders Jazz Trio, comprised of Marc Holt on saxophone and other woodwinds instruments, Michael Stankowski on guitar, and Nevin Buehler on bass, will perform a variety of jazz standards and jazz-inspired covers of pop tunes by various artists.

Stankowski and Buehler are based in Saskatoon, while Holt resides in Yorkton.

They recently performed some small outdoor shows in Yorkton.

Holt said it feels good to be together playing gigs again.

“The best part is justing being back playing with the band,” he said. “Being that I don’t live in Saskatoon, it was extra hard during the pandemic. Those guys are not just my band-mates, they are my best friends. So it is great being back playing with them and spending time with them. We’re looking forward to getting on the road again too.”

The trio was formerly part of the Marc Holt Quintet. After two of the members moved to different parts of the country, the band revised its name aptly to The Remainders.

The musicians have performed at a number of venues in recent years, including the annual Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.

This will be She-NANIGANS’ second live event since the venue re-opened last week.

Kelly Waters of She-NANIGANS said the previous performance was a success. She is pleased the venue can hold shows again, at a reduced capacity while meeting the province’s COVID-19 regulations. Tables are socially distanced, and hand sanitizer is available at each table for attendees.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure they have everything they need to be safe,” Waters said.
