Trial scheduled for accused in Thunderchild First Nation murder case

A man charged in connection to a homicide on the Thunderchild First Nation in 2018 is now set for a trial at Battleford’s Queen’s Bench Court two years from now.

Ivor Antoine Wapass, 45, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Roger Standingwater, 57, on Sept. 15, 2018. Wapass was arrested Nov. 1, 2019.

Wapass, who remains in custody, is scheduled for a three-week trial by judge and jury starting Jan. 4, 2022.

Roger Standingwater was found in medical distress at a home on Thunderchild First Nation on Sept. 15, 2018. He was pronounced deceased shortly after he was found.
