Red Pheasant Cree Nation announces a confirmed case of COVID-19

Jul 29, 2020 | 5:35 PM

Red Pheasant Cree Nation has a positive case of COVID-19.

In a statement on Facebook, the First Nation indicated a community member was confirmed to have COVID-19.

Drive-up COVID-19 testing was available for Red Pheasant community members at the Red Pheasant Health Centre on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. People were asked to remain in their vehicle for the testing process.

Chief Clint Wuttunee stated in the Facebook post more community members could potentially have the virus, even if they feel well. He added the risk was higher for anyone who recently visited high-risk areas or took part in “high-risk activities,” such as gatherings, handshakes and/or hugs.

If anyone does test positive, the First Nation indicated a nurse will make sure they can isolate safely and that they have access to food and supplies. The First Nation said individuals will have their privacy protected.

The chief said the Medical Health Officer will advise the community’s leaders of any new cases, but personal information such as names and locations will not be shared.

“Please be assured that your privacy will be protected and that you will receive support to isolate,” he stated.

Individuals can attend drive-through testing times or call Healthline 811 to be tested.
