After months of investigating the homicide of 26-year-old Braeden Alfred James Sparvier of the Onion Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan RCMP made their first arrest Thursday.

Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit North, with assistance from Prince Albert RCMP, arrested 27-year-old Shari Heathen, also of the Onion Lake Cree Nation. Heathen is charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.

Saskatchewan RCMP first received word on January 1 of a deceased male, east of St. Walburg. Two days later, Sparvier was identified as the victim and his death was ruled to be a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
