The ninth suspect charged in the Tiki Laverdiere homicide investigation now has a defence lawyer assigned to his case.

Charles St. Savard, 33, from Edmonton is facing charges of kidnapping and first degree murder.

St. Savard, who is in custody, appeared in court via phone.

A representative from Legal Aid who appeared by phone said a lawyer has been assigned as St. Savard’s defence counsel.

St. Savard must continue to abide by a no contact order for a list of individuals that is protected by a publication ban in place.

Crown prosecutor Chris Browne said the publication ban is required to preserve the evidence. He added the RCMP investigation is ongoing.

St. Savard’s case has been adjourned to North Battleford provincial court on Aug. 28 at 11 a.m.

Laverdiere, 25, was reported missing on May 12, 2019. She was last seen in North Battleford on April 29 of last year, and was last in contact with family via a text message May 1 of 2019. Human remains were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford on July 11, 2019 and confirmed to be the Edmonton woman on July 16, 2019.
