The man at the centre of a violent arrest video in Saskatoon over the weekend hasn’t been seen since his release from jail

According to a statement posted on the Indigenous Joint Action Coalition’s Facebook page Tuesday evening, 27-year-old Evan Penner’s family is worried about his welfare and safety.

Group spokesperson Erica Violet Lee told 650 CKOM his mother is currently looking for him, and he normally stays in very close contact with her.

The statement indicates Penner’s family is very concerned, and as far as they are aware, he hasn’t been seen by anyone since he was released Monday after being charged for his altercation with Saskatoon police.

Saskatoon police say they were called to the 500 Block of 11th Street E. Saturday for a report of a suspicious person who had been hosing himself off in front of an apartment building.

Frank Collins, who lives behind the yard where the altercation took place, recorded two videos, including one of the 27-year-old’s arrest, where he was allegedly punched, tasered and pepper-sprayed by Saskatoon police officers.

The Saskatoon Police Association President says the video doesn’t tell the whole story, and has urged the public to hold judgement until an investigation into the incident is completed.

The IJAC Facebook statement also reads, “If you have any information regarding Evan’s location, DO NOT contact Saskatoon Police Service. Please contact Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service (24 hours) at (306) 933-6200.”
