Drivers using Highway 4 North asked to watch speed during construction

Drivers are asked to watch their speed and follow the posted signage during construction work taking place on Highway 4, north of North Battleford.

The province is currently making upgrades for three sections on Highway 4 North to improve highway safety.

Ministry of Highways spokesperson Steve Shaheen said work is being done north of the Highway 378 turn off, south of the junction with Highway 26, and at the turnoff at Highway 26.

“There are going to be reduced speeds in place at 60 kilometres per hour,” he said. “This is work in addition to the passing lanes that were opened back in 2018, between North Battleford and Cochin.”

The province wants to remind drivers travelling through the Highway 4 North area where the construction work is underway to expect some delays.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

“This is all part of the [province’s] Safety and Improvement Program (SIP),” Shaheen said.

He said the $7-million program for this year essentially is to “reduce the frequency and severity of collisions through a number of spot-specific highway safety improvements, such as lighting, guardrails, rumble strips and other types of [upgrades].”

Shaheen said a number of highway safety projects are ongoing in the area.

“We are constantly making improvements to various intersections across the province,” he said.
