Local communities receive grants for traffic safety initiatives

A number of local communities will receive funding from the provincial government for a variety of traffic safety projects.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Fund is providing $550,000 in grants to 50 communities across Saskatchewan.

The City of Melfort is receiving $57,750 for crossing improvements at Brunswick School. That’s the most money given to any one project.

The City of Prince Albert is also getting $48,183 for school zone safety upgrades.

“It’s great to once again see so many are taking the initiative to reduce traffic collisions, injuries and fatalities in their communities, and I’m pleased that the Traffic Safety Fund is able to help them reach their goals,” Minister Responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave said in a media release.

Projects include digital speed display signs and other speed management projects, pedestrian crossing signals, school zone beacons and additional street lights.

Provincial Traffic Safety Fund grants are awarded twice a year, using some of the proceeds from photo speed enforcement. Applications for the next round of Traffic Safety Fund grants on July 1, and the deadline for applications is Sept. 24.
