City of North Battleford removes lawn watering schedule

It is said the grass is always greener.

North Battleford city council announced this week that moving forward, residents will be allowed to water their lawns whenever they choose, free of schedule.

Previously, the watering schedule had permitted residents and businesses whose address numbers end in an even number to water their lawns on even-numbered days, while those whose address ends in an odd number were allowed to water on odd-numbered days.

Dustin MacDonald, with the City of North Battleford, said the watering restriction was never intended to be implemented on a permanent basis.

“The odd-even watering was brought in when the water treatment plants could not treat the water as fast as customers were using during the day,” he said. “With the new treatment and wells, we can now treat the water people are using at the daily rate they are using it.”

While residents are now free to water their lawns as they see fit, MacDonald does encourage everyone to be conscious of their water usage, as it is a valuable resource.

The city does have a bylaw that would allow them to return to the odd-even watering schedule if needed down the line; although at this time that is not the plan.
