Boys and Girls Clubs to restart Summer Adventure Day Camps in July

With the first part of phase four in the provincial government’s Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan starting this week, summer camps and day camps will be able to resume operations.

Members of the Boys and Girls Club of the Battlefords plan to take advantage of the new phase with the Summer Adventure Day Camps.

Nicole Combres, the executive director for the local Boys and Girls Club, said they will be waiting until July 6 to open their day camps because they have to ensure they have proper COVID-19 protocols in place.

“It was important to us not to rush into the opening. Although we wanted to open our doors and be a support to our members and their families and to the community as a whole, we wanted to make sure our opening was strategic and that we took the time to put the necessary precautions in place that are needed to be able to offer programs and services in a really healthy and safe manner,” she said.

Like most things, COVID-19 has added some limitations to the day camps. Combres said they will be limited to 15 kids and parents will not be permitted inside the facility.

“Unfortunately, because of some of the regulations in place we are only able to have a very limited amount of kids attend our weekly camps,” she said.

Combres said they have maintained some services throughout the pandemic but are excited to be able to bring back day camps.

“We continue to offer our pandemic support service to our families, but our Summer Adventure Day Camps allow us to continue to serve more kids. So we are really excited to have our program staff back here, overall just incredibly excited and cautiously optimistic,” she said.

Starting on July 6, the Boys and Girls Club’s Summer Adventure Day Camps will run every week through to August 21. Registration for the day camps opened on Monday, June 22. Combres said they require full registration and full payment to reserve a child’s spot and will operate on a first come, first serve basis.

“We can only have 15 kids in our summer day camps, so we are anticipating that these spots will fill up fast so the sooner the better,” she said.

Anyone looking to register their child for the Summer Adventure Day Camps can do so on the Boys and Girls Club website, or by heading down to the club and filling out the forms in person.
