Garage sales not allowed in Battlefords during COVID-19 pandemic

Jun 5, 2020 | 8:00 AM

Local mayors want to remind area residents garage sales are not allowed due to the province’s COVID-19 restrictions.

As the province announced, garage sales are not permitted at this time and will be re-assessed in later Re-Open Saskatchewan phases.

North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater said residents need to continue to be mindful of the ongoing ban and not take any risks.

“People should not be foolish and have garage sales that will attract strangers to their home. This is no time to be taking chances,” he said.

There is still a pandemic in effect, he said, and restrictions remain in place.

Anyone who witnesses a violation can call the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s toll free line at 1-855-559-5502 to report it.

Bater said the province’s public safety officials work with law enforcement to ensure people are adhering to provincial public health orders.

Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie echoed Bater’s sentiments.

Among the challenges with garage sales, he mentioned, people cannot control social distancing.

“Also, are the people hosting the garage sale able to sanitize everything that everybody has touched in between?Leslie said of the concerns. “There is just too much potential of transmission at this time.”
