An RCMP Officer was injured during the execution of a search warrant near Biggar, Sask., yesterday evening.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. last night, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) went to a residence 27 kilometres north of Biggar, as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking.

While the officers were preparing to execute the search warrant, shots were fired in their direction. One of the officers sustained a non-life threatening gunshot injury. The officer received initial medical treatment from RCMP officers with the Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT).

Officers continued with the execution of the search warrant, resulting in an adult male and an adult female being taken into custody without incident. The injured officer was further assessed by local EMS and no further treatment was required.

No RCMP officers discharged their weapons during this incident and no other individuals were injured.

Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as RCMP officers conduct the investigation, however, RCMP said there is no risk to public safety.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates from the RCMP will be provided as soon as they are available.
