Splish Splash shows support to first responders, healthcare workers and food bank

A local business managed to show its support to first responders and health care professionals during the COVID-19 situation, and also help the local food bank at the same time.

Splish Splash Auto, RV and Pet Wash offered free car washes, provided by their staff, to all first responders and healthcare workers during the month of April to express their appreciation during this difficult time. Staff members washed 255 vehicles in total at no charge. In one day alone they washed 32 vehicles.

“They just had to show us their ID and we gave them a free wash,” co-owner Veronica Materi said.

The total cost of this promotion to thank front-line workers was $3,200. The company wanted to “give back even more,” and decided to round up the total to $4,000 and donate it to the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre to help those challenged by food insecurity.

Materi co-owns Splish Splash with her sister Gloria Winterhalt and brother Travis Materi.

“We wanted to give back to the community, and say thank you to health-care providers and first responders for the care and sacrifice they were making because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

The Battlefords District Food & Resource Centre’s Executive Director Erin Katerynych said she was thrilled with the donation.

The funds will likely be used to help support the ongoing Food for Kids program which provides hampers once a week to elementary students living in food insecure households.

Katerynych said the food bank is adding a few extra items to the Food for Kids bags.

The Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre is open five days a week.

“Without the support from amazing local businesses like Splish Splash Auto, RV and Pet Wash, the local food bank would not be able to help the most vulnerable in our community,” Katerynych said. “Splish Splash is a great example of neighbours helping neighbours.”
