Restrictions Slightly Eased

Slight changes for golfing, boating in Saskatchewan

Residents looking to enjoy outdoor pastimes this week will have a slight ease in restrictions for a few activities.

Golf courses are set to open on Friday after originally having tee times separated by 24 minutes, they can move forward with tee times being 12 minutes apart. Mayor Ryan Bater said this will have a significant impact with more tee times available.

“Which means there’s more opportunity to go and play,” he said.

There’s still a max of four players, physical distancing must take place and use of the driving range and practice greens requires all balls to be cleaned and disinfected between customers. Bater said golf’s difference in common objects is part of the speedier reopening.

“When you play golf you’re using your own clubs, your own golf balls and you can distance from each other,” he said. “That’s the difference.”

The other change from Friday affects boating restrictions. The province has loosened the stance that all occupants of boating have to come from same household, in keeping with similar discussions about expanding social circles.

“You should be able to expand to that broader household dynamic, that we’ve spoke about for a number of days here now, when you’re out fishing,” Premier Scott Moe said on Friday.

However, Bater said residents shouldn’t let their guard down.

“This would have to be consistent with the concept of opening up your circle slowly,” he said. “And only interacting with a few select people.”
