BUH Foundation to host virtual golf tournament

The Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation will be hosting their annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament (WPMGT) with a twist this year: The event will take place in a virtual setting.

Held May 15th to June 12th, participants will be given the opportunity to virtually walk the golf course together and help raise funds for new medical equipment at the BUH.

BUH Foundation Executive Director, Claudette McGuire said the decision to move the tournament to an online format was not made lightly, but ultimately seemed like the right move, made with the health and safety of all the participants in mind.

“It was a difficult decision to make as to whether we’d be able to postpone the tournament or have to consider not hosting it at all,” McGuire said. “In the end it comes down to the province’s rulings and keeping all of our golfers and volunteers safe. So unfortunately, we will not be gathering at North Battleford Golf & Country Club this year, but we do have a fun, virtual experience that we will be moving to instead.”

BUH Foundation Chairperson and WPMGT Committee representative, Sue Pruden-McIvor said via statement while it would’ve obviously been nice to be able to gather together for the event again this year, under the circumstances, the virtual golf get-together can serve as a fun experience in its own right.

“While we are disappointed we can’t gather in person as family and friends, we are excited about this new format,” Pruden-McIvor said. “The needs in healthcare don’t stop and we want to be able to continue to provide the best for our community, despite the present circumstances. We are excited to have everyone join us.”

Through the support of sponsors, golfers and donors, the BUH Foundation will hope to raise $3,000 per hole this year. All proceeds from the 18-hole tournament will be put towards purchasing new medical equipment for the hospital.

The 2020 virtual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament will be hosted on the BUH Foundation website, and through the BUH Foundation’s Facebook page. Those wishing to be a part of the event can contact the BUH Foundation’s office at 306-446-6652, or email sherry.krelow@buhfoundation.ca.
