Free compost drop-off at North Battleford Waste Management Facility

With some warm weather on deck for the weekend in the Battlefords, residents will be eager to start tackling yardwork.

The City of North Battleford is reminding everyone the Waste Management Facility remains open to the public through the COVID-19 pandemic in the province.

“We never closed it and it has been open this whole time. It runs until 5 o’clock everyday, except for Sunday,” North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater said.

Bater also wanted to remind the public there is no charge for dropping off compostable material at the Waste Management Facility.

“Yard waste is actually free to take in if it is compostable material. So, you know your dead leaves, and your grass you just take in and throw it in the compost pile and there is no charge for that,” he said.

However, branches, stumps and old wood are not compostable.

“That doesn’t include woody materials because that is not compostable. That has to go into the wood pile and that is not free,” Bater said.

Bater mentioned those same restrictions apply to Loraas customers with green bins.

“You can’t put that material in the green bins either. It doesn’t compost. It has got to be the leaves, the grass and food scraps,” Bater said.

North Battleford’s Waste Management Facility is located east of Territorial Drive on Wearing Road.
