Parking restrictions for street cleaning back in North Battleford

Apr 28, 2020 | 3:25 PM

Street sweeping is fully underway in the City of North Battleford.

Following the completion of snow removal in the city, staff are working to remove dirt, gravel, salt and other substances as efficiently as possible, before heavy rain guides everything into the sewer system. Mayor Ryan Bater said cleaning up what’s left over from winter is a necessity, otherwise it will cost taxpayers in the future.

“If it goes in the storm sewer, it causes a bigger problem, which is much more costly and time consuming to fix,” he said.

Street cleaners will start in the middle of the street, with successive passes going further in toward the curbs. In order to keep that process efficient, Bater said this won’t happen overnight. He added people shouldn’t think they’re in the clear after moving their vehicle once.

“It’s a multiple week process,” he said. “It isn’t a one-time pass.”

Parking restrictions will be enforced during the cleaning schedule. In order to avoid tickets, drivers will have to move their vehicles to an adjacent street to allow street sweepers room. Bater said if that happens, everyone benefits.

“[It] gets you outside, get to move your vehicle and walk back to your house. Then it’s done and we can safely remove that gravel,” he said.

A schedule for street restrictions is available on the city’s website.
