An Onion Lake man faces charges following an alleged altercation earlier this week.

Christopher Cook of Onion Lake has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, use of a firearm in committing an offence, and discharging a firearm with intent.

Shortly before midnight on April 20, Onion Lake RCMP were called to a residence on the Onion Lake Cree Nation following the report of an adult male who had been shot with a firearm.

Officers and EMS responded and provided first aid to the 50-year-old victim who was transported to hospital.

It was reported that another male who lived across the street inflicted the injuries to the victim during an altercation. Officers immediately set up a containment to secure the residence where the accused was believed to have been located. The 26-year-old, Cook surrendered himself to police and was arrested without incident.

Cook is scheduled to make his first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court via phone on April 23, 2020.

North Battleford’s Provincial General Investigation Section of the RCMP investigated with the assistance of North Battleford Forensic Identification Service, North Battleford Police Dog Service, and officers from Onion Lake, Glaslyn, and Turtleford Detachments, as well as the Maidstone Roving Traffic Unit.
