P.A. woman receives parade for 40th birthday

Dozens of Shannon Billo’s closest friends and family showed up for her 40th birthday on Thursday in Prince Albert, and none of the province’s social distancing rules were breached.

Shannon and her husband Devon have been in self-isolation since returning from a trip to Belize two weeks ago. Devon explained his mom initially suggested making a cake and leaving it on the doorstep of the couple’s home. She also discussed the possibility of putting some balloons on her car and driving by honking. It wasn’t long before word spread to other family members and some of the couple’s closest friends.

“Next thing you know we had a little parade going,” Devon laughed.

By the end of it all, 16 decorated vehicles were lined up on the street outside the couple’s home, containing close to 30 people. Sitting in the lead car were Devon’s parents and the couple’s 16-year-old daughter.

“It was quite touching, especially being gone for two weeks and then being in isolation. We are going on four weeks without being able to hug our daughter, or our friends and family,” Devon said.

As for Shannon, she had no idea what was being planned, and admitted to paNOW she was overcome with emotion.

“As soon as I saw them turn the corner, I started crying,” she said.

Shannon explained all the gifts that were were dropped off, were placed in the corner of the home where they have remained since. Each package was carefully picked up and moved with the use of gloves. It’s safe to say, Shannon will never forget this birthday.

“You know it brought a smile to everyone’s face and they had some fun too,” she said.
