North West College suspends all classes and programming this week

Mar 17, 2020 | 10:04 AM

North West College (NWC) in North Battleford is joining with the province’s other post-secondary institutions and will be suspending all classes and programming for the remainder of the week.

The college says to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, North West College programs will be offered through alternative delivery options where possible, effective March 23.

“This is a situation that has things changing rapidly almost to a point where things are changing on a daily basis. So we are constantly monitoring what is happening globally, provincially and locally,” Jay Notay President and CEO of NWC said.

The college will have updated information for students that will be provided by email from each program.

Notay said they have suspended classes for the week so they can work on a plan for the college moving forward.

“What we are doing during this time is looking at aligning with some of the directives from the province. From the premier we have heard that the province’s focus is on restriction and managing the pandemic,” he said. “We are looking at how we can transition current programming either online or through alternative delivery methods and looking at student completion as our priorities.”

They have updated their schedule for the following week. From March 17 to 20 in-person classes have been suspended. On March 20 more information will be provided to students regarding alternative delivery and on March 23 alternative delivery programming for students will begin, where possible.

Notay said NWC does currently plan to resume operations on Monday with alternative delivery methods for programs.

“As we stand right now, classes are postponed. Not cancelled, but postponed for this week with the anticipation that we are going to start up again on Monday and our staff and faculty will be in contact with students,” he said.

Scheduled safety training will continue as is until further notice.

The campuses will remain open but services will be limited. As this situation continues to change Notay said students should continue to monitor their website for more information.
