Twin Rivers Curling Club hosting bus trip to Scotties

The Twin Rivers Curling Club will be hosting a bus trip to the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Feb. 26.

The club rented a bus and purchased a block of tickets for two draws on Sunday afternoon.

Robyn Silvernagle and her team will represent the province in the tournament and many local curling enthusiasts are eager to show support, according to the club’s general manager, Doug Flasch.

The team plays on Sunday at 1 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.

This will be the second year Silvernagle’s team has represented Saskatchewan at the national championship. Flasch said they have seen an increased interest in curling in the Battlefords, especially from young female curlers.

“Our ice maker Ian has started a Saturday morning youth program. We have probably 12 kids in that and I think nine or 10 of them are girls,” he said.

Flasch said they even have a young female curler, Chloe Semeniuk, who has qualified to compete in the Hit, Draw and Tap championship put on by CurlSask.

“She will be throwing on the arena ice at the Scotties on the Sunday before the final. She will be competing against four other kids from the province,” he said.

Twin Rivers originally purchased 40 tickets and have already sold them all. Anyone else interested in going can contact Doug at the curling rink (306) 937-2431 or via email. Flasch said they have room for another 10 people but seats will sell fast.
