Mavis Takakenew, 55, one of the eight facing a charge connected to the Tiki Laverdiere homicide investigation, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder in Queen’s Bench Court in Battleford Monday.

A sentencing hearing was also held Monday when she entered her plea. The decision on the sentencing will take place March 25.

The court ordered a publication ban on all details of Monday’s hearing, including evidence, and victim impact statements until the judge or jury, depending on the matter, involving all the other seven accused have retired to consider their verdict.

Laverdiere, 25, was reported missing on May 12, 2019. She was last seen in North Battleford on May 1. Human remains were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford on July 11 and confirmed to be the Edmonton woman on July 16.

Outside of court, Laverdiere’s family and supporters gathered Monday.

Laverdiere’s uncle Doug Laverdiere said the family appreciate all the supporters who have been there and continue to offer support to them during this difficult process.

Mother Carol Laverdiere said the family misses Tiki dearly and members wish everyone could have seen what a wonderful person she was.
