An Alberta farmer won the jackpot at Gold Horse Casino in Lloydminster.

Dennis Scheck from Bodo, Alta., won $92,718 on Feb. 1 in SIGA’s first Bonus Spin Blackjack jackpot.

According to Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority’s (SIGA) release, Scheck was playing the Bonus Spin Blackjack and then took a break. But he decided to come back and try again. As soon as he played again, he was dealt the blackjack hand that enabled him to spin the wheel.

Scheck said he couldn’t believe he won.

“I think this is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life,” he said.

SIGA President and CEO Zane Hansen said this is the first Bonus Spin Blackjack ever won at a SIGA casino.

“Congratulations to Dennis,” Hansen said.

Gold Horse General Manager Roger Anderson said not only is this the first Bonus Spin jackpot paid out by SIGA, it is also the largest live games jackpot paid out at Gold Horse Casino to date.

“We are so excited for Dennis, and to celebrate another first for Gold Horse Casino,” Anderson said.

SIGA said the Bonus Spin Blackjack is a new table game at all SIGA Casinos. The Bonus Spin is a Blackjack bonus that allows players a chance to win an incremental progressive jackpot of various cash prizes.

To play the game, participants bet $5 on a bonus spin and have two ways to win: If they have an ace in their first two cards they are paid even money, or if they are dealt a blackjack they will press a button that spins a virtual wheel in order to win money, including a top-prize progressive.

SIGA said it’s the first gaming operator in Canada that offers this type of bonus bet. The Bonus Spin Blackjack jackpot at Gold Horse Casino has now been reset to over $15,000 and can be won at any time.

Gold Horse Casino is owned and operated by SIGA, which operates seven First Nation casinos in Saskatchewan. Since opening in December 2018, Gold Horse draws more than 10,000 visitors each month.
