BHDA set to host annual Robbie Burns Supper and Ceilidh

The annual Robbie Burns Supper and Ceilidh is on deck this weekend at the Alex Dillabough Centre in Battleford.

Amanda Maunula, the co-chair of the event, said the night offers a glimpse into Scottish dancing and heritage.

“It is a celebratory night for our dancers and the Scottish community to come together and have a wonderful supper, eat some haggis and listen to some highland pipers,” she said.

Maunula said members of the Battleford Highland Dancing Association are excited to showcase all the things they learned throughout the year.

“We have 38 dancers who will be showcasing the things they have learned this year. Some are choreographies and some of them will be traditional dances,” she said. “We hope everyone has a wonderful evening and is able to take in some Scottish culture. Laugh, drink scotch, and eat some haggis, just try something new.”

At the end of the dances, the BHDA will invite anyone who wants to give highland dancing a shot up for their mass fling.

“My daughter has been dancing for six years and I always try it with her and it is not as easy as it looks,” Maunula said.

The Scottish event is on Saturday, January 26, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and supper at 6 p.m.
