SJHL/MJHL Showcase Day 2: Final day of action underway in Regina

Jan 22, 2020 | 11:47 AM

This year’s annual SJHL/MJHL Showcase will conclude Wednesday, after one more game from each team on the final day of action.

Team Kunitz kicks off the day’s schedule Wednesday morning against Team Zajac, as North Stars Matthew Fletcher, Noah Form, Quintin Loon-Stewardson, Elijah Loon-Stewardson, Austin Becker, Matthias Urbanski and Seth Summers play their final game of the event.

Form, who is in his first year at the showcase, said he has been enjoying the experience this week.

“It is nice representing the Stars because there are a lot of us, and there are lots of guys to hang out with,” he said. “Basically my take away from this [event] is that it is just a ton of fun. Hanging out at the hotel and the bus ride here was a ton of fun; and playing in the games, they are fast-paced with lots of skill.”

Summers added after getting acclimated to the bright lights and pressure surrounding the event it didn’t take long until it was just another game out there.

The sophomore standout for the Stars has been playing alongside his usual defence-partner with the Stars, Matthew Fletcher, and said that familiarity has only helped ease the transition.

“Obviously, we had to get the nerves out in the first couple shifts, but once you [become] comfortable, it’s just chemistry, you know what each other is doing,” he said.

The SJHL’s Team Mitchell and MJHL’s Team Belfour will follow up the day’s opening contest with the mid-afternoon game, played just after 1:30 p.m.

Team Schwartz, featuring the North Stars’ forward, Steven Kesslering, will then face off with Team Garbutt in the final game Wednesday evening, with puck drop just after 5 p.m.
