BATC’s Atoskewin Success Gathering set for Feb. 18-20

The Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC) are hosting the Atoskewin Success Gathering for 2020 at the Western Development Museum (WDM) on February 18 to 20.

Alexis Christensen, director of communications for BATC, said the event will offer three full days of presentations, information and entertainment.

“It is like a job fair, but it will be more than that. We are going to have education training and employment information, which is the core of it. After that, we kind of add the fun and the excitement and entertainment to get people in,” she said.

Some of the highlighted activities planned for the three-day event include live bands, a fashion show, traditional food, land-based learning, hand games competitions and more.

Christensen said they will also have a full line-up of presentations ranging from local role models to business and employment experts.

“We have some keynote speakers coming and several role models coming who will speak throughout the three days, most of which are local. There will be a lot of guest speakers,” she said.

Among the many guest speakers will be NHL broadcaster Clarence Iron, Olympic athlete and professional hockey player Brigette Lacquette, and makeup guru April Dawn.

Christensen said the BATC had took over the entirety of the WDM’s campus for this year’s event. She said there will be something in every corner of the building and they will have the land-based learning event take place outside on the WDM grounds.

Christensen said events like the Atoskewin Success Gathering are important to the BATC and Battleford area residents.

“Our Atoskewin Success Centre is all about trying to give a hand up. We are constantly thinking about what programs we need to offer, what services, what can we do to bring in people and obviously we like to add some fun and flare to it. Certainly the hope is that everyone can come there, gain some information and potentially get on a road to personal success,” she said.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and is free of charge. They will also be running a shuttle service to all the bands within the BATC to help alleviate the hurdle of having to travel to the event.
