Jan 16, 2020 | 11:18 AM

The North Battleford Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1021-111 Street at approximately 1:18 p.m., Jan. 15.

The Fire Department responded with one engine and three firefighters on the initial alarm.

When they arrived, firefighters found smoke coming from the front door of the house with tenants stating all people had escaped but a cat was still inside.

The firefighters made entry into the house and knocked down the kitchen fire quickly. Shortly after, a second pumper arrived with two firefighters who relieved the first.

When the second pumper arrived it consequently found the family cat and returned it safe and sound into the owner’s care.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended pot on a stove which resulted in a grease fire. That fire then spread to a small portion of the structure itself.

Total time on scene for the Fire Department was approximately an hour and a half. No injuries were reported.
