It’s time to shine a light on the citizens who do their best to make the Battlefords a better place to live.

The North Battleford Lion’s Club with community partners Discovery Coop, Q98, CJNB, and 93.3 The ROCK are encouraging people to nominate someone they think is deserving for the Citizen of the Year Award, Junior Citizen of the Year Award and, new this year, the Citizen Of The Decade Award.

“We’re asking people to nominate people who have been making a difference in our community,” Nic Fransoo, morning show host for Q98 and program director for the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group in North Battleford, said. “Basically we ask listeners to think of the people that they know that stand out in their mind that give of their time, their energy, their talents in whatever way they can to give back to the community.”

He said an individual may have done a great deal for someone personally or may have made a great contribution to their community, or their neighbourhood, for example.

“It can be pretty much anyone you think deserves that extra nod or pat on the back to say: You have done an amazing thing, and we want to recognize you for it,” Fransoo said.

New this year is the Citizen of the Decade award. Fransoo said for this award people need to nominate someone who has made an outstanding contribution in the community for the past 10 years.

People can submit their nominations online at q98.ca, cjnb.ca or 933therock.ca or drop off a written letter for their submission at the station at 1711-100 St. in North Battleford. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.

A committee of judges with representatives from each of the groups involved in the event will select the winners of the three awards.

The Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year and Citizen Of The Decade Awards will be presented in a special banquet ceremony in March.
