Police seize handgun and cash after traffic stop near Maidstone

An individual is facing a litany of charges after RCMP found a loaded handgun and about $10,000 during a traffic stop near Maidstone.

According to a media release, the RCMP F Division’s Roving Traffic Unit together with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol stopped a westbound vehicle on Highway 16 on Jan. 6.

Officers arrested the vehicle’s passenger, Mahdi Mahdi, 24, of Regina. He was charged with obstruction; possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; two counts of failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm weapon with ammunition without a licence/registration, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, possession of a firearm ammunition in a motor vehicle, and weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization x 2.

The accused remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in Regina Provincial Court.
