Police make ‘significant’ drug seizure after traffic stop near Maidstone

Police retrieved a significant drug seizure from a vehicle during a traffic stop near Maidstone yesterday.

Under the Cannabis Control Act, Mounties searched the vehicle after pulling it over on Highway 16. Officers located 259 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and 223 grams of suspected cocaine in vacuum-sealed bags.

The total amount of drugs seized totalled nearly a half a kilogram, roughly 3,500 uses.

Darian Smith, 27, of Edmonton was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

He appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court this morning.
