PBR gives BTEC and Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan over $30K in support

North Battleford Professional Bull Riders (PBR) made a special pre-Christmas gift to two non profits to help families in the area.

The organization gave a total of $31,513 to be split between the groups in a presentation at McDonald’s Restaurant in North Battleford Wednesday.

Battlefords Trade and Education Centre Inc. (BTEC) and Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan each received $15,756.

Head of the North Battleford Professional Bull Riders Committee (PBR), Corey Chmelnyk, said funds were raised from ticket sales, 50/50 sales, and proceeds from the PBR Classic event in North Battleford this past July.

Chmelnyk said the organization was glad to support BTEC and Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan.

“We figure everyone around our area uses both of them, and they need to keep their operations running,” he said. “Without funds and [support] it’s pretty hard for them to operate.”

Battlefords Trade and Education Centre executive director Mona Leece said the support will help fill a need.

“Some of the funds are going to our sensory room that we are getting in the near future, and some go to programming,” she said.

BTEC currently has 67 participants.

“They will all benefit from all the money raised from PBR,” Leece said.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan Chief Executive Officer Tammy Forrester also welcomed the support. The centre is based in Saskatoon but serves families from around the surrounding region including the Battlefords.

“It will go towards house operations,” Forrester said of the donation. “In our operation we provide accommodations for families that are coming in from different parts of the communities from the province for medical treatment for their child.”

Forrester related these contributions benefit breakfast programs, and ensure families “have a place to sleep, and a comfortable warm environment during their stay” while their child is receiving treatment at a hospital nearby.
