2020 BOB Awards feature new take on local favorite

Dec 18, 2019 | 1:00 PM

The 2020 Best of the Best (BOB) awards are returning to the Battlefords for another year.

Since 2017, battlefordsNOW has put the spotlight on the Best of the Best in the Battlefords area. They recognize the area’s finest in food and drink, nightlife, entertainment, shopping, mind and body, and more.

This year had over 5,000 nominations, 162,543 votes and nearly 5,000 area residents participating.

Kelly Bitner, sales manager for battlefordsNOW, said they have been happy with the growth of the BOB awards, which are now in their third year.

“Every year it keeps getting bigger. It is exciting to see the people that are nominated and the community really seems to get behind it,” he said.

The awards ceremony for this year’s awards has been finalized. It will be held on Jan. 22 at the Events Centre at the Gold Eagle Casino.

Bitner said the awards this year are a little bit different than they have been in the past.

“One of the things we did this year with the BOB awards this year is we are calling them the 2020 BOB awards and we are doing them at the beginning of the year. What we really want people to be able to do is utilize the fact that they have won a BOB award in their own marketing and really promote they are the 2020 BOB award winner for all of 2020,” he said.

Some of the big winners in this year’s event: Gene Aulinger for Best Citizen, Battlefords Boys & Girls Club for Best Community Club, Country Cuisine for Best Breakfast and Battlefords Pizza for Best Pizza.

“It is just a really good chance for people to get recognized, whether it’s businesses or people. Some of these people may not get recognition on a regular basis, like a letter carrier or something like that. This gives them an opportunity to get recognized,” Bitner said.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and all the festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m.
