It was a frustrating night at the Civic Centre for the Battlefords North Stars Saturday. Although in the grand scheme, the Bombers’ victory settles the proverbial score, as the Stars defeated Flin Flon 10-3 in the opening matchup of the season-series, back on Sept. 24. Bombers explode for double digits, defeat Stars 10-1 in NB

Dec 14, 2019 | 10:58 PM

Following an intense back and forth showdown Friday between the two sides, the Flin Flon Bombers bounced back from their 3-2 defeat, to explode for 10 at the NB Civic Centre, defeating the Battlefords North Stars 10-1 Saturday night.

Six Bombers’ players picked up multipoint efforts in the win, as the team’s big line of Tristan Lemyre, Alec Malo and Cole Rafuse led the way for the victory.

Lemyre picked up a hattrick in the win while Rafuse had two goals and three points, and Malo pitched in a game-high five assists.

For the second-straight night, special teams played a key factor. The Bombers potted four power play goals and a shorthanded marker on the evening, while holding the Stars’ man advantage to an 0-for-6 billing.

Flin Flon netminder, Jacob Delorme stopped 31 of 32 Stars’ shots for the win, but had his shutout bid snapped by Stars’ forward, Elijah Loon-Stewardson at the midway mark of the third.

The victory improves the Bombers’ record to 23-7-4 on the year, giving the team 50 points on the season. The North Stars move to 27-6-2.

Flin Flon now sits just six points back of the Battlefords for top spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings, while holding a game in hand.

The Stars will now look to regroup quickly, as the team is back in action Tuesday night against the division-rival Broncos in Humboldt.

Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
