Accused in Thunderchild First Nation murder in process of seeking a bail hearing

Dec 10, 2019 | 12:39 PM

A man charged in connection to a homicide on the Thunderchild First Nation last year will remain in custody until at least the new year.

Ivor Antoine Wapass, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Roger Standingwater, 57, on Sept. 15, 2018. Wapass was arrested Nov. 1, 2019.

He appeared in North Battleford provincial court via CCTV Tuesday.

Defence lawyer Jonathan Bodvarson said a bail verification and supervision report has been completed.

“We’ll likely be bringing an application early in January to Queen’s Bench for bail,” he said.

Bodvarson said he is waiting for more disclosure from the Crown that he will need to review before a bail hearing can take place.

Wapass must continue to abide by an order not to have contact with six individuals.

His case has been adjourned to Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at North Battleford provincial court.
