Despite firing 43 shots on goal with traffic in front, the Stars could only sneak a single goal passed Terriers’ goalie, Ryan Ouellette, who stopped 42 of 43 on the night. Stars fall 5-1 to Terriers in Yorkton

Nov 27, 2019 | 11:31 PM

For just the third time this season, the Battlefords North Stars found themselves on the wrong end of the scorecard at night’s end; and for the third time this season, the team to foil their night was the Yorkton Terriers.

The Terriers defeated the Stars 5-1 Wednesday night at Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton.

Goaltender, Ryan Ouellette led the way for the Terriers, stopping 42 of 43 shots, while forwards Alec Zawatsky and Chantz Petruic carried the bulk of the offensive load, with four and two points apiece, respectively.

Quintin Loon-Stewardson scored the Stars’ lone goal in the defeat, while goalie, Parker Rey stopped 30 of 34 shots against for the Battlefords.

After a scoreless first period that saw the goalies steal the show, Loon-Stewardson’s team-leading 20th of the season opened the scoring at the 7:29 mark of the second.

Loon-Stewardson’s tally was assisted by linemates, Elijah Loon-Stewardson and Rylan Nivon on the scoring play.

Yorkton would respond quickly, however, as Petruic’s league leading 30th tied things 1-1 just three minutes later on a two-on-one.

Following their captain’s goal, forwards Kaeden Taphorn and Jordan Guiney each cashed before the end of the period as well, making it 3-1 Yorkton heading into the third.

In final frame, Alec Zawatsky scored his 12th of the season and fourth point of the night to make it 4-1 on a two-on-one just 2:22 into the regulation time period to all but seal the evening.

Then, at the 17:15 mark, Steven Norum capped the night’s event with an empty netter to officially end it; 5-1 Terriers, the final.

Despite the loss, the North Stars have still won 17 of their last 19 games and sit comfortably atop of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings at 24-3 on the year.

The Stars will now look to rebound quickly as the team is back in action Thursday night in Wilcox to take on the division rival, Notre Dame Hounds.

Thursday’s game will broadcast on NAPA North Stars Hockey on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:45 p.m. with puck drop at 8 p.m.
