Saskatoon mom now a millionaire after big win at N.B. Gold Eagle Casino

A Saskatoon mother is now a whole lot richer after a big win while visiting the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford Monday afternoon.

Debbie Vidal won $1,333,974 on the SIGA Smoke Signals top tier progressive jackpot on Nov. 25.

“I actually still can’t believe it,” she said.

Vidal, who is originally from Makwa near Meadow Lake, said she was with family for a visit to the Gold Eagle Casino and decided to try the Smoke Signals progressive machines.

“I said ‘I think they are calling my name,’” she said. “I came here and circled [the machine] and said: I think, you know, this one must actually be calling my name. And, five spins later I was the lucky winner.”

Vidal said she first thought the machine broke when it showed she had won the million dollar amount.

“I said that can’t be true, so they will need to fix that,” she said with a laugh. “I think honestly it doesn’t feel real.”

She plans to spend some of her winnings get the family together and go to some place hot for a vacation to get away from the cold winter.

The married mom with two children said the family also want to “splurge” and purchase two Ski-Doos with the winnings as well.

Gold Eagle Casino General Manager Kelly Atcheynum said this is an exciting win.

“I’d like to congratulate Debbie Vidal for being Saskatchewan’s next millionaire,” he said. “We’re very proud to have the winner here at Gold Eagle Casino. This is the second Smoke Signals jackpot that was won here. The other one was in 2016. We’re happy to show we do have winners here in North Battleford as well too. You can win at any one of our seven sites.”

SIGA president and CEO Zane Hansen said SIGA is always thrilled to create more instant millionaires.

“This is excellent,” he said. “This is a big signature game. We really designed Smoke Signals from day one to be that life-changing event for our customers. So, when we can put together a big prize like this and give back it’s a lot of fun.”
