City to start budget deliberation meetings

Nov 26, 2019 | 9:47 AM

North Battleford City Hall has announced it will start its 2020 budget deliberation meetings next week.

Sessions will be held December 2, 11 and 16, starting at 5 p.m. each evening. All meetings are open to the public.

Mayor Ryan Bater said residents will have an opportunity to offer input on the proposed budget at the second meeting on Dec. 11, as part of a new public forum process.

“We do want to hear from the public. This is an important part of the process,” he said following council’s meeting Monday. “This is arguably the most important thing a city council does on an annual basis, and engagement is important.”

Concerned individuals or groups that wish to speak will need to register with city administration in advance so the city can schedule the time accordingly.

At the Dec. 2 meeting, the budget will be presented. As well, community groups seeking financial assistance will make presentations to council. Police and fire services will also be discussed.

Then, on Dec. 11, in addition to the period earmarked for the public, the city’s Leisure Services and Public Works departments will present, as well as the city’s general governance representatives.

At the last deliberation meeting on Dec. 16, the city’s Planning and Development department will outline its priorities.

It is expected council will approve the final version of the budget at its first meeting in the new year.
