Blaine Lake RCMP lay charges in alleged fraud and identity theft case

A 27-year-old Blaine Lake woman is facing charges following a police investigation in an alleged fraud and identity theft case.

Blaine Lake RCMP initially responded on Nov. 17 after receiving information of a possible fraud and identity theft.

Police executed a search warrant later that evening on a home in Blaine Lake and seized the following items: 144 personal identification cards, with the majority of them being Saskatchewan driver’s licences and health cards, 200 stolen cheques, stolen tools, and a small amount of what is believed to be crystal meth.

Latecia Juba-Arcand was arrested and is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, identity theft, fraud, forgery, possession of stolen property obtained by crime, and possession of a controlled substance.

Juba-Arcand was remanded into custody and appeared in Provincial Court in Saskatoon Nov. 19.

While he couldn’t discuss the details of the case, Saskatchewan RCMP spokesperson Rob King said it’s not common for police to seize such a high number of identification cards in a search.

“It’s unusual to find somebody with that many types of personal ID on them of other people,” he said. “One part of the investigation that will be continuing is to determine how [the accused] came across that many different pieces of ID.”

King said that number of identification cards could lead a person to use the names and information to create false identities and false bank accounts.

“That’s when you can really start affecting someone’s credit rating, someone’s finances,” he said. “That’s what makes it such a serious crime.”
