NBCHS Vikings senior boys cap volleyball season at Regionals

The North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS) Vikings senior boys volleyball team capped off their season over the long weekend at Regionals in Prince Albert.

The Vikings senior boys wrapped up their season falling to Lloydminster in the teams’ quarter-final matchup to close out the campaign.

After back-to-back tight games with Meadow Lake’s Carpenter High School and the host team, P.A. Carlton, the Vikings’ boys pushed their quarter-final showdown with Lloydminster to a deciding third set, before falling just short in their third and final contest.

Assistant coach of the senior boys, Heather Berezowski said looking back on the season, she is proud of the way the boys played, and how the group came together with an all-for-one outlook.

“They were truly a team,” she said. “They played as a team, they stayed together as a team and communicated. That was the whole point of our coaching philosophy was that we want them to be a team first and foremost.”

Berezowski also said she and her husband, Steven are beyond grateful for the support in coaching the team from fellow assistant coaches, Paul Sarsons, Shawna Sturk, and Sheldon Revet. She said without the collective group effort, the season would not have been the same.

“There are so many people that put time into this team and [each of the staff] helped out,” she said. “They each helped run practices, they all helped get jerseys washed, drive the van and get the boys where they needed to go. We definitely appreciate that and I know the boys appreciate it as well.”

With just one graduating player on the team, the vast majority of this season’s senior boys’ squad will be able to return to the club next year, ensuring a competitive season to come once again next fall for the Vikings’ senior boys.
