A North Battleford fireman has been recognized by the Saskatchewan government for his contribution to the province.

Acting Fire Chief Lindsay Holm received a Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal during a ceremony in Saskatoon on October 9. The award was presented to him by the Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal recognizes exemplary service for individuals who provide protective services that ensure the safety, security, and protection of citizens in the province.

Holm started his career as an emergency medical technician in 1992. He worked with the bi-provincial upgrader and Lloydminster Ambulance. He also did some industrial work as an EMT at the Allan Potash mine.

In the year 2000, Holm found his way to the North Battleford Fire Department and has been working to protect the community since. For the last year and a half, Holm has been serving as the acting fire chief for the North Battleford Fire Department.

Holm said he was surprised and humbled when he heard that he would be receiving the award.

“For me it was pretty humbling; it is not something that I expected to receive. It caught me off guard because it was put in by the chief on my behalf, so I was very humbled to receive the award,” he said.

Holm said he has been proud to serve the Battlefords area for the last 19 years and looks forward to continued efforts to improve the safety of everyone who calls it home.
