Two arrested after shots fired in Battleford, collision in North Battleford

Nov 1, 2019 | 8:21 PM

Two suspects in an early morning shooting in Battleford were arrested after they collided with another vehicle later in the day as they fled from police.

Battlefords RCMP were called to reports of shots fired on Fourth Ave. and 33 St. in Battleford around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

Police spoke with the people inside the home that was shot, and while they were not injured, they refused to cooperate with investigators.

The home was seized and searched for evidence.

Neighbours provided the RCMP with a description of a vehicle but they did not find it until around 2 p.m., when patrols came across a vehicle that matched the description.

Officers tried to stop it but the vehicle sped away, ran a yield sign, and slammed into and flipped over another vehicle at the intersection of 109 St. and 13 Ave.

RCMP arrested 23-year-old Kane Nicotine from St Albert, Alta., and a 17-year-old female, who can’t be named, from the Poundmaker First Nation.

Nicotine is charged with fleeing police, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and several weapon and firearm charges.

Both suffered non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.

Police located a loaded long barrel firearm and several cans of bear spray in the suspect’s vehicle.

Officers continue to investigate and anticipate more charges to be laid.
